The Bizarre Circle
Growing up in Oruro, Bolivia, I developed a profound connection to a landscape that is desert-like and intensely charged with magical energy. I spent a lot of time on my father’s farm and cultivated an instinctive affinity for the natural world, which is why the vast setting of the Altiplano frequently reappears in my work.
Within these environments, I construct hybrid figures that merge animal and human forms. Through these figures and landscapes, I examine the cycle of life and death, the passage of time, the mystery of the universe, and the quiet confusion of the human condition. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel, I build upon their tradition of allegory and didacticism through my engagement with surrealism, using it as a portal into the subconscious and the architecture of dreams.
Underlying my compositions is a commentary on our looming environmental crisis. A crisis that is an unavoidable consequence of a society driven by greed and material temptation. My imagination carries me into mysterious internal realities, and using my surreal imagery and symbolism, I invite the viewer to enter that subconscious realm with me.
