Marcelo Suaznabar

Marcelo Suaznabar, born in 1970 in Oruro, Bolivia, is a self-taught visual artist whose work traverses surrealism and magic realism. From an early age, he was passionate about drawing, exploring mediums such as watercolors, pastels, and colored pencils. In 1992, he completed a course in art at the Catholic University in Santiago, Chile. His early works were heavily focused on religious themes, influenced by colonial baroque artists like Melchor Pérez de Holguín and Italian artist Bitti. Later, he drew inspiration from surrealists such as Bruegel and Bosch, leading to phases he describes as "Apocalypse" and "Altiplano Mágico" .

Now based in Canada, Suaznabar's art often explores themes of life, nature, and the human psyche. His pieces are known for their intricate detail and symbolic depth, reflecting a blend of cultural heritage and imaginative expression.
